Parlour 1886 at the Historic Elgin Hotel in Marion is changing ownership but will still offer affordable prices and great food. They are also changing their name to Chef’s Plate at Parlour 1986.
There are some big changes coming on Feb. 1 to the restaurant at the Historic Elgin Hotel in Marion, but the plan is to keep the same great prices and service.
Kari Newell, who lives in Marion and has been the kitchen manager at Parlour 1886 since February of 2022, has bought the restaurant and will be taking over it all starting Feb. 1.
“She has done an amazing job of getting our kitchen in order and just taking the Parlour up several levels. A couple of months ago I was talking with her and I offered her the opportunity to own her own restaurant and she said ‘yes’. She is going to own the new Plate which we are calling Chef’s Plate at Parlour 1886. I will own the space and the furniture and fixtures, and she will pay me rent and own the restaurant. I am excited to have it off of my plate and be able to hand Kari her dream,” said Elgin owner Tammy Ensey. “It’s all really exciting.”
Newell says she is “beyond estatic”.
“It’s scary and exciting. It’s such an exciting opportunity. I’m almost at a loss for words,” she said. “Tammy has been a life changing and moveable force in my world for sure.”
The plan is for the staff to stay the same if they choose to stay on, and the basics of the menu are not going to change.
“What we are looking at is really stepping up our experience. We want to provide complete oppulence. “We want the entire thing to be an experience from start to finish. It’s not just the atmosphere, it’s not just the food—it’s the service, it’s all of it combined. We really want to go to next level fine dining,” said Newell. “In doing that though, we are not, at this time, foreseeing any kind of increase in prices. People are just going to be receiving better experiences at the great prices they always have.”
Ensey added that the vision of the Elgin has always been to be the most unique and sought after vacation destination in Kansas.
She said, “This move is really just to help us get to the next Plate in our journey so we are delivering the type of experience where everything matches. For example the atmosphere looks so upscale and we want the whole experience to match it.”
One visual change will be seen with the servers.
“We are implementing some wonderful uniforms that are going to make us really stand out to the next level of professionalism so when people walk in everything really does match all of the hard work that Tammy has put into making this the most beautiful restaurant that I have ever seen. It’s important to make all of that work together,” said Newell.
The new number for the restaurant will be 620-323-0572 beginning Feb. 1. The website will continue to be Parlour1886.com and reservations will still be taken at ReserveParlour1886.com.
