MES students celebrate Kansas Day

Retired Marion teacher Janet Armstead, life member and board member on the Santa Fe Trail Association, shared her vast knowledge of the Santa Fe Trail with students celebrating Kansas Day at Marion Elementary School.

The staff and students at Marion Elementary School celebrated Kansas Day on Friday, Jan. 27. Students traversed through 4 stations:

The Barred Tiger Salamander

Pioneer Games

Sunflower Art with the MHS Art Club and Mrs. Schroeder, art teacher

For the Santa Fe Trail station, students heard from retired teacher Janet Armstead, who is a life member and board member on the Santa Fe Trail Association. She is also the education chairperson. Armstead shared her vast knowledge of the Santa Fe Trail with students celebrating Kansas Day and encouraged them to explore the public trail areas in the county.

Students also got to check out a Barred Tiger Salamander from the Great Plains Nature Center.
