Marion County Sheriff’s Department locates deceased, missing man

At 5 p.m. on Monday, June 24 a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to an area East of 240th and Kanza Rd in Marion County. A local rancher/farmer had reported a silver Dodge truck partially in a pond.

The deputy responded and located a vehicle registered to James W. Lightfoot. During the investigation, it was learned that Mr. Lightfoot had been reported as missing from the Sedgwick County area.

That night, at 10:55 p.m., a Kansas Highway Patrol aircraft conducted a search of the area. The search was unsuccessful in locating the possible owner of the vehicle.

The next day, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department contacted a Sedgwick County K-9 Cadaver team to help with the search. It was decided the team would respond at 9 a.m. the following day.
