Several Marion County youth spent their Christmas break showing at the Arizona National Livestock Show in Phoenix, Ariz.
Tayle Black of Marion and SaRae Roberts and Landon Roberts of Hillsboro exhibited sheep and swine at the show. Tayle and Landon exhibited three swine, SaRae exhibited two sheep, and Landon showed one sheep.
The youth and their families left the day after Christmas as the show started Thursday, Dec. 28.
Tayle placed fourth in her cross gilt class. Landon placed eighth in his Yorkshire gilt class, third in his Duroc barrow class, and first in his cross gilt class. He went on to place fifth overall in the division and 20th overall in the crosses.
Their animals made the sale and his gilt was sold to a breeder in California.
SaRae placed third in the medium-weight market lamb class, and ninth in a heavy-weight market lamb class.
Landon placed 10th in his market lamb class.
Tayle, SaRae, Landon and Katlyn Galloway of Reno County competed in the Barnyard Olympics.
The families of the youth did some sightseeing on the trip. This was their first time showing at the ANLS and were impressed with the show.
