Volunteers lend a cleaning hand

Cleanup420.jpg Youth group members from Alexanderfeld Church near Hillsboro were among 53 volunteers picking up trash Saturday during the eighth annual Clean-Up Day at Marion Reservoir. ?This is a community service opportunity for our youth,? said Bonnie Ensz, one of the group?s coordinators. Tiffany Penner, Heidi Hiebert, Monica Millsap, Melissa Hiebert and Glen Ensz were among the volunteers collecting garbage on the dam. Neal Whitaker, park ranger with Corps of Engineers, said more than 4,290 pounds of trash were collected by 173.5 combined hours of volunteer labor. Lloyd Davies, owner of Great Plains Computers in Marion, has organized the event since its inception eight years ago. ?He does everything,? Whitaker said. Davies said he couldn?t do it without the help of so many. He also wanted to mention how ?awesome? volunteers were climbing around the dam and getting trash from between rocks. ?That was a tough thing to do,? he said. ?I would also like to thank Tampa State Bank for donating the doughnuts and drinks and the park rangers for gloves, bags and transport service.?
