Program, participation grows for Hillsboro?s fifth annual Fourth of July Eve gathering

Overcast skies and moderate temperatures helped attract more than 200 people to the annual Fourth of July Eve community party at Hillsboro?s Schaeffler House on Friday evening. Pictured here are some of the scenes from the event, starting clockwise from the upper left photo:

State Rep. Bob Brookens, making his oratorial debut, spoke about celebrating the nation?s birth, the city?s 125th anniversary and the Schaeffler House?s 100th birthday during the same weekend.

Abe Lincoln (Don Dahl) pontificates on the
current state of affairs in the United States before reading the
Gettysburg Address. He warned that people who look to government to
solve their problems instead of taking personal responsibility for
their future will someday find themselves back in bondage.

Residents and guests enjoy the program during
the Fourth of July Eve sponsored by the Friends of the Hillsboro
Museums last Friday. Moderate temperatures and overcast skies provided
a comfortable evening for the 200 or so who came.
