With the addition of a new automated trash/recycling truck arriving in March, the City of Hillsboro Sanitation Department is conducting a survey.
The reason is to help sanitation officials in determining what size cart would best serve residential trash and recycling needs, a sanitation official said.
The three sizes being considered include a 50-gallon, 64-gallon and a 96-gallon receptacle.
For residents who use a city-owned trash cart, it is a 96-gallon container, an official said.
“Our goal is to have all refuse contained in the cart and not have bags on the ground,” an official said. “We anticipate having the same residential collection charge, whether residents are issued a small cart or a large one.”
The new truck will be able to “grab” trash receptacles at curbside and dump the garbage into it without the help of a second person.
Trash and recycling will be on different days, and residents will be issued separate carts for trash and recycling.
Trash collection will be weekly, and recycling is slated for every other week.
Sanitation department personnel are requesting everyone’s assistance by taking the survey but only completing one survey per household.
Surveys are available at Hillsboro City Hall, 118 E. Grand Ave., or residents can complete the study online at surveymonkey.com/r/3LZXH5M.
