Main Street Ministries in Hillsboro is bringing back its ?Kids Lunch Bunch? for children ages 5 to 11 starting at noon until 1 p.m. every Wednesday.
LaVonne Carrington, MSM interim director, said the idea of the weekly lunch and games program is to serve the community children.
?This is not just for MSM, but for other kids, too,? Carrington said. ?We will have lots of activities planned throughout the summer, including some water games, which went over really well before.?
According to Carrington, this is not a new idea.
?We did it a couple of years ago when Lillian Bookless (former director) and I were here,? she said. ?For three years in a row, it was a huge hit.?
Leah Rose, director of MSM children?s ministries and food bank director, talked about how the program will work.
?Each week a free lunch will be served and we will read Bible stories and play games,? she said.
?The event is open to everyone in the community and parents are welcome,? Rose said. ?We are hoping churches will get involved and different groups in the community.?
By getting involved, Rose said she envisions maybe a Sunday school class or Kiwanis group choosing a Wednesday to provide food and a Bible story that day.
In addition to water games to include water balloons, water relays and team events, Rose said she also has a lot of different ideas, too.
The first Kids Lunch Bunch was June 13.
?We thought we would start ?dry? and make the kids aware (of what to expect at future gatherings),? she said.
The lunch bunch will meet Wednesdays from now until August, Rose said.
