Local students place well at first forensic meet

Hillsboro High School students Alana Suderman, Trudy Hein, Moriah Jost, Connor Hiebert, Gabbie Arnold and Coach Bailey Kaufman attended the first forensics meet for the year on Saturday. The meet, held at Augusta High School, was a sort of “pre-season” meet according to Kaufman.

Arnold placed 2nd and qualified for state in humorous solo. She also tied for 2nd in serious solo.

Suderman and Hein placed 6th in duet acting.

Hiebert placed 6th in International Extemp.

Moriah Jost competed in poetry.

“This was Hillsboro’s first forensics competition in over a year. It was definitely a learning experience for the students and for me as a new coach. From the first round of competition to the final round, the students gained confidence and perfected their pieces. I’m excited to see how the team grows and improves over the next few months. We’re especially excited for Gabbie Arnold, who qualified for state at her first meet,” said Kaufman.

The team will have several more meets in March and April.
