The weekend snowstorm was blamed for a two-vehicle car accident Friday that killed a Hillsboro woman and injured two other people. The accident occurred at 120th and Indigo, about seven miles south of Hillsboro.

According to the Marion County sheriff?s office, Sharon Chamberlain, 57, was riding northbound in a 2001 Chevrolet Prism driven by her husband, Donald, 61, when a southbound 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Chelsea Reiswig, 23, slid sideways in front of the Chamberlain vehicle.

The Chamberlains? car struck the passenger side of the SUV.

Sharon Chamberlain was pronounced dead at the scene. Donald Chamberlain was transported to Newton Medical Center by Hillsboro Emergency Medical Services and later transferred to Wichita.

According to an employee at Hillsboro Ampride, where Donald worked, he suffered a broken hand, foot and rib injuries.

Reiswig was transported to Newton Medical Center by Peabody EMS.

The sheriff?s report noted that at the time of the accident?about 1:27 p.m. Friday?the road was ?ice covered and extremely slick.?

All three people involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts, according to the report, but Sharon Chamberlain had placed the shoulder restraint portion of the seat belt behind her at the time of the accident.

Hillsboro Amrpide will be closed from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday to attend Sharon Chamberlain?s funeral. (See Page 3 for her obituary).
