Parents as Teachers program doing well in spite of obstacles
The USD 410 Board met for their monthly meeting on Monday, April 12. They heard from Parents as Teachers (PAT) Director Susie Kliewer about the Marion County Parents as Teachers program.
Kliewer stated that the pandemic hit the program hard and caused the numbers to go down, but they are starting to recover.
Our program year began July 1 and we have actually enrolled 24 families since then as we have exited other families. That feels like we are doing something,” said Kliewer.
She went on to explain that while DCF does refer families to the program, the program is for any family with young children not yet in school and does not have to be a DCF referral.
Kliewer also shared that they are trying to come up with more ideas to get information out about the program.
Kliewer will be retiring this spring, but Becky Suderman, who currently works for PAT, will be stepping in as the new director.
The board approved the district’s continued participation in the program.

The board approved numerous personnel changes. The changes are:
Ashley Janzen – HES 5th grade classroom teacher for the 2021-22 school year
Amy Clements – HES Title I teacher for the 2021-22 school year
Alyssa Kroeker – HS Head Softball Coach for the 2021-22 school year
Bailey Kaufman – HS Forensics Coach for the 2021-22 school year
Dustin Dalke – HS Assistant Golf Coach for the the 2020-21 school year
Jill Siebert – HES Music / Art teacher resignation effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year
Ryker Schmidt – HES 5th Grade teacher resignation effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year
Rod Just – USD 410 Bus Shop Mechanic resignation effective date June 1, 2021
Jeff Jensen – Oasis Bus Routes hired for 5 hours per day effective date April 5, 2021
Doug Dick will decline the early afternoon Oasis route effective April 12, 2021. His scheduled hours will change from 5 hours per day to 4 hours per day for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.
Tammy Ollenburger – summer painter for 40 hours per week for up to 10 weeks
Allison Maxfield – summer painter for 40 hours per week for up to 10 weeks
In other business, the board:
n approved the purchase of the New 2021 10 Passenger Ford Transit for the price of $33,100 from Midway Motors.
