Miles open up new salon in Marion

Robin and Brent Miles recently moved to Marion County to open their new business Silk Salon Spa Boutique in Marion. Laura Fowler Paulus / Free PressWhile not all couples can live and work together, some couples manage to pull it off. Brent and Robin Miles are attempting to do just that.

The couple lived briefly in Peabody when they first got married years ago, but they have lived in Wichita for most of their marriage.

Brent has owned a few spas, and Robin has always cut hair and dreamed of owning a boutique. So when Brent’s cousin called in July to see if they wanted to buy the salon in Marion formerly known as Miles by Design, the couple decided to jump in and do it. They bought a home out at Marion County Lake and have now opened Silk Salon Spa Boutique.

While they are still finishing moving out to their new house from Wichita, they are mostly moved into their new home. Moving back to Marion County has been an adjustment but one that they are enjoying.

“When I get out there, I don’t know how to explain it, but there is just a sense of comfort. It is almost a sense of coming home,” said Robin.

The couple fondly remember being first married and finding spare change to grab drinks at Sonic and then driving around the lake talking while they enjoyed their drinks.

“It is fun to relive those memories,” said Robin.

They have been extremely busy getting their new business up and running. The salon offers all types of services.

“We have pedicures and manicures, tanning – including stand up, lay down and spray, massage, waxing, hair and the boutique. We also do extensions,” said Robin. “Right now it is just me, but we are planning on adding a few more stylists. So people need to come see me if they are looking for work.

The couple plans to add more of their own touches and style to the business, but they also kept some of it the same so they could open immediately.

“We are open for business and ready for customers now, but we do plan to do some painting and a facelift,” said Brent. “We have guaranteed hours so walk-ins are welcome.”

They will continue to have clothing and hair supplies for sale just as the former salon did, but they plan to expand the boutique portion.

“Right now we just have clothing, but we want to add some home goods such as candles. We will also have jewelry and other items,” said Brent.

The couple emphasized wanting to build an experience for their customers.

“We want people to come in and feel connected and enjoy the atmosphere and experience that they have here,” said Robin.

The salon is located at 1240 Commercial Dr. in Marion. The hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 9-5, Thursday 9-7, Friday 9-2 and Saturday 9-12. The phone number is 620-382-7940 or check out their Facebook for more information.
