Marion County Fair blends tradition and innovation in its 86th year

The 86th annual Marion County Fair blended familiar events with some new ones over six days of activities and entertainment last week. • Members of the TJ Ranch team work their calf toward the trailer during the loading competition at the Coed Ranch Rodeo on Tuesday evening. • The McPherson Bagpipers Ensemble from McPherson made its debut during and after Friday’s parade. • A traffic jam developed during the debut of the power wheels event during the demolition derby on Saturday. • A parade float sponsored by the Democratic Party promoted Jo Schwartz’s campaign to unseat John Barker as 70th District representative in Topeka was a reminder of the political season. • Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Tim Huelskamp greets onlookers as he walks the parade route.
