Kids wrestling tournament draws 240-plus

Thurston Silhan (right) of Hillsboro eyes his opponent with anticipation as they compete Saturday in the Age 6 & Under division of the 18th annual Hillsboro Takedown Tournament at Robert C. Brown Gymnasium. Thurston, who took second in his group with a 1-1 record, was one of the more than 240 wrestlers who participated through age 12. The participants came from 21 clubs around Kansas, including 28 members of the Hillsboro Wrestling Club, according to Scott O’Hare, director of the tournament and the local kids’ wrestling program. “Overall I thought the tournament ran very smoothly, thanks to the outstanding efforts of our club members and their families,” he said. “I’m hoping it was a positive experience for all of those involved.” Results of the Hillsboro wrestlers appear on page 9A.
