Hutchinson man dies in car-train crash at Durham

A 29-year-old Hutchinson man was killed Sunday when a westbound Union Pacific train struck his vehicle at the railroad crossing in Durham at about 12:41 p.m.

According to the Marion County sheriff’s office, Nathan L. Parson was heading south on Kansas Highway 15 in a 1990 Geo. Short skid marks from Parson’s vehicle, as well as statements from witnesses, indicate he was attempting to stop but ended up going under the cross arms and onto the track.

Parsons was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Examiner JoAnn Knak. His family has been notified.
