Hillsboro and area hit record temperature

The Emprise Bank time and temperature clock on Main and Grand in Hillsboro said it all Monday, but the National Weather Service office in Wichita confirmed it. Hillsboro, Wichita and several other cities in Kansas hit 100 degree, the highest recorded temperature for May 9,

and the earliest record for the highest temperature in a year, according to Robb Lawson, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wichita. The previous record was May 10, 1967, he said, but by late Wednesday, a cold front is expected to move in bringing rain and cooler, more normal temperatures in the 70s. The average temperature in Wichita and the Marion County area for May is about 73 degrees, he said.
