Going, going…

DroughtCityPond2012

DroughtCityPond2012 A nearly dry south pond in Hillsboro?s Memorial Park is only one more indication of the severity of the lingering summer drought. The two ponds are usually kept full by run off from city streets, but now huge cracks (shown at left) are taking over. Weather forecasters are predicting cooler temperatures and the possibility of showers this week.

DroughtCityPond2012 Even if the area receives some rain, it may be too late for the fall harvest. Corn is already being cut, while soybeans and milo fields are looking bleak. For perspective on the ag situation in Marion County, see Page 10.
