FACT group helps county’s youth daily

Family and Children Together Inc. is working to provide school supplies for Marion County kids who cannot afford to purchase their own. This is just one of many things that FACT does for families in the county.

FACT is a local nonprofit organization that serves all children and families in Marion County. Its vision is that all children live, learn and grow in safe, healthy homes, schools and communities. The organization is governed by an Executive Board that consists of diverse representatives who reflect the demographic composition of Marion County.

The purpose of FACT is to facilitate collaborative action to improve lives in Marion County. FACT, in partnership with churches, agencies and schools, provides early childhood programs, substance abuse prevention programs, anti-poverty programs, and the FACT family financial assistance fund.

“This fund provides families and children with resources including financial assistance in emergency situations, holiday support (food and gifts for children), school supplies, diapers and more,” said Executive Director Ashlee Gann. “Where there is a need, we help. We also specialize in resource and referral by providing the FACT Family Resource Directory every year and collaborating with ministerial alliances, agencies, etc. throughout the county. We try to stay up-to-date on what is available for families so that we can plug them into services within the county.”

Those in need of school supplies should contact Gann and provide basic information such as grade, school district and gender of children needing supplies. She can be reached on her cell phone at 620-877-0197.

Any donations of school supplies or monetary donations for the purchasing of school supplies are welcome. Checks can be mailed to FACT Inc. at 416 S. Date, Hillsboro, KS 67063.

“People can most definitely still donate,” Gann said. “Supplies and/or monetary donations can be dropped off at the FACT office which is located in the USD 410 district office.”

Gann was the executive director from 2012-2015. After some time off to be in the home with her children, she returned in January on a part-time basis.

“My favorite thing about FACT is helping families and especially the children in those families,” said Gann. “I also love to see agencies and organizations come together and collaborate for the good of Marion County children and families. To me, those things will never get old.”

Donations from the community and collaboration with other agencies go far in helping FACT be even more successful.

“We are so thankful to the county, school districts, local community foundations, Marion County Toy Run, groups who have donated, churches, individual donors and anyone else who has supported FACT over the years,” said Gann. “We wouldn’t be able to help Marion County communities and families if it weren’t for donors like you. Please keep FACT in mind when looking to support or donate to a community organization in the future.”
