This White-lined Sphinx Moth?sometimes called a hummingbird moth?enjoys gathering nectar last week in the flower bed that lines the front of Hillsboro?s Civic Center. Hummingbird moths get their common name because they hover in air while they drink the nectar of the flower, rather than sit on the blossom as do most other moths and butterflies. The moth below the hummingbird moth is a skipper moth. Thanks to irrigation, the flowers in front of the city building have come through the long, hot summer in pretty good shape?by moth standards, at least.
