Couple with local ties to join ?Amazing Race?

Bethany Hamilton and Adam Dirks will be competing as a team on the CBS reality show ?The Amazing Race. Episodes will be aired this fall.The 25th edition of the reality television series ?The Amazing Race? will feature a team with a Marion County connection.

Adam Dirks, who was raised in Durham and attended Hillsboro schools and Tabor College, and wife Bethany Hamilton of Princeville, Hawaii, will be one of 11 teams to race around the world in pursuit of $1 million on the series.

The show is hosted by Emmy Award-nominated host Phil Keoghan.

A professional surfer and speaker, Hamilton?s story of losing an arm in a shark attack and returning to competition was told in the 2011 movie ?Soul Surfer.? She and Dirks were married last August.

On the show, teams race against each other in various locations worldwide, completing a series of challenges before their next destination is revealed.

Teams coming in last are gradually eliminated, and the team that finishes first at the finale will claim the $1 million.

Teams departed from Times Square in New York City Saturday, May 31, and will race for approximately 25 days.

?The Amazing Race? will air this fall on Fridays at 7 p.m. on the CBS Television Network.
