Country group Diamond Rio signs for Chingawassa Days

The Marion Chingawassa Days Committee has announced that country music super band Diamond Rio will be this year?s 2011 headliner act at the festival?s Saturday night concert June 4.

The act made history in 1991 as the first group to have their debut single ?Meet in the Middle? reach No. 1 on the charts. They have sold more than 10 million albums and have nine No. 1 and 22 top-10 singles.

Diamond Rio has been named vocal group of the year six times by the Country Music Associa?tion and Academy of Country Music. For 15 consecutive years, the act has been nominated as CMA Vocal Group of the Year, more than any other band in country music history.

The group was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1998, has had 14 Grammy nominations and was the 2010 Dove Awards winner for ?Country Album of the Year.?

The group?s most recent album, ?The Reason,? was released in February 2009 and is their first overtly Christian album. It received the group?s first Grammy on Sunday for ?Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album.?

?We?re all believers. We always have been,? said vocalist Marty Roe. ?I think a lot of our songs reflected that part of who we are, but this was different to actually able to say in a stronger voice what our hearts are about.?

Chingawassa Days Commit?tee member and spokesperson Misty Hett said, ?Diamond Rio is one of the most decorated and honored bands ever booked for the festival. They are sure to provide a great night of high energy entertainment on Saturday, June 4.?

The Chingawassa Days Committee will have more announcements about entertainment being lined up to ?Rock the Park? Friday, June 3, along with other acts and events for Saturday afternoon and evening.

Chingawassa buttons will go on sale in May for Diamond Rio and all the other entertainment options yet to be announced.
