Brookens has been known for his weekly column printed in newspapers throughout the district, keeping residents informed of events and issues facing the legislature each session.
?I have enjoyed writing the column, and I?ve truly appreciated all the feedback from folks in the district, with suggestions for savings, as well as input on issues facing us in Topeka,? he said.
Brookens said next year?s budget challenge could be nearly as difficult as this year?s, and he hopes the legislature will look at all programs, prioritizing those that are essential to Kansans? core values and cutting those that can be pared down.
Brookens said this was something he had advocated for in his 2008 campaign, but the legislature has not yet taken up. Brookens said he welcomes comments and suggestions for the next session on programs that need fixing or cutting.
The first-term representative is being challenged for the seat by Cheryl Green of Rosalia.
