Authorities started looking for Kliewer late afternoon May 12 after the sheriff?s office received a call from someone at the reservoir who witnessed a capsized boat about one-half mile from the lookout point, according to Marion County Deputy Jim Philpott.
Kliewer?s other boat was sighted further up the shoreline later that day, he said.
Undersheriff David Huntley said the search was hampered until Monday because of the strong, gusting winds that made it unsafe to launch recovery boats. Winds calmed Monday, and four boats were dispatched?including at least two equipped with sonar?but to no avail.
In addition to the boats, law enforcement officials also had support from the air and ground.
A memorial service is planned for Kliewer at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.
