Area receives first significant snow of the season
Abigail Calam clears snow off the sidewalks in front of the Free Press office in Hillsboro Monday morning following the first substantial snowfall of the season. She and her family members cleared the way for several downtown businesses. As of Monday evening, 5 to 6 inches of the fluffy white stuff had blanketed the area, providing much needed moisture and ground cover for the winter wheat crop. The blanket of snow should provide protection for the sub-zero temperatures that were expected to hit the state Monday night, unless northwest winds cause blowing and drifting.
