County makes decision on heated dock repair

Isaac Hett, superintendent for the Marion County park and lake, spoke with the Marion County Commissioners regarding the repair of the heated dock at the lake. The dock was damaged in the storm early in the summer and has not been used since then.

Hett explained that the dock will need to be demolished and then rebuilt. While the county had hoped to keep the work within county, Brice Goebel explained that due to the price of recycling of steel being way down, they would not be able to do it cost-effectively.

The board compared several bids that Hett presented including ones from Home Resort in Tescott, Mac’s Docks and Ben’s Boat Dock Co in Kechi.

The board voted to accept the bid of $203,900.00 from Ben’s Boat Dock Co. to demolish the damaged heated dock and restore a new one.

In other business, the Commissioners:

n set the schedule for December deciding to not meet on Dec 30

n heard an apology from Brice Goebel about his personal finances not impacting his professional life

n heard from Lloyd Davies, of GPN&C, about cybersecurity. The board went into executive session for twenty minutes and then went back to general session where they voted and approved for Davies to take whatever measures he needed to for cyber safety for Marion County staff.

n heard from Rickey Roberts, Agent for the KSU Extension Office, regarding county districting. The Commission and Roberts agreed that he would return for an in-depth discussion on Dec 16.
