Construction on Ash in Hillsboro to take about two weeks

Hett Construction works on the corner of Ash and Grand in Hillsboro. The section will be closed for about two weeks while the project is completed.

Residents in Hillsboro will have to find an alternate route down Ash while Hett Construction does repairs on a small section of road on Ash between Grand and 1st Street.

Grand will remain open and access to 2S Outdoor Power will be available.

“Traffic should use Main Street as the detour around this area. We are encouraging heavy truck traffic to use Industrial Road to travel north and south. The closure was originally planned to start on Friday, April 12 but was moved up one day. Thank you in advance for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience during construction,” said a City of Hillsboro Facebook post on Wednesday, April 10.

Street Superintendent Dale Dalke said it should take about two weeks depending on the weather.

“They’re removing pavement across the entire roadway there curb to curb for 30 feet or so. There’s a bump there. There was a shift in the pavement. A lot of materials in the summer expand because they get hot. This concrete was working against itself, and it would fracture and break itself. And so then there would be holes there. And so we’d fill with asphalt, but the forces were against each other. And then some went up and some went down causing a bump there,” said Dalke.

Dalke said they will also be working on the northeast corner.

“We’ll reduce a little bit of sidewalk and the wheelchair ramps to make them ADA compliant,” he said.
