Louis Holt, a 2010 graduate of Marion High School and an Eagle Scout, is pictured wearing his white uniform hat and gloves and holding the sword given to him by his parents, Terry and Ann Holt, during his commissioning ceremony for officer training Saturday even?ing at the Marion Community Center. About 100 people were in attendance. Holt will be heading for training at Quantico, Va., in April and may pursue flight training after that in Pensacola, Fla. In addition to the Marine officers who led and administered the ceremony, his mother, Ann, and fiancee, Melania Arrieta, pinned on the 2nd lieutenant bars; and Greg Bowers of Marion, former 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army, gave the invocation. Holt gave his first official salute to USN Petty Officer 2nd Class Cody King of Manhattan. Jane King of Marion coordinated the event. Pictured in the background of the photo is Gunnery Sgt.
