Can get car seats set up in county

Last week, nine individuals representing seven different agencies in Marion County became certified car seat technicians. The class was taught by three Kansas Highway Patrol officers and sponsored by Safe Kids Worldwide.

There has not been a certified car seat technician in Marion County for several years, and it has definitely been a need in the county. Until now, families had to be referred to Harvey County for car seat installation.

The goal of the course is to educate caregivers on how to install a car seat properly in their vehicle and ultimately help keep children safe.

Throughout the year, the county will be holding public car seat check lane events. Watch for advertisements for these events.

The county will also take individual appointments. To make an appointment, call the Marion County Health Department and a technician in your area of the county will assist you in installing the child seat correctly. There are also car seats available for those to qualify. Call for details.

The seven agencies represented were the following:

Marion PD – Duane McCarty

Hillsboro PD – John Huebert

Hillsboro Fire – Matt Hein and Josh Ens

Parents as Teachers – Brandi Hein

KState research and extension – Tristen Cope

Head Start – Alex Williams

Health Department – Erin Hein and Deidre Serene

The Marion County Health Department can be contacted at 620-382-2550.
