Centre awards Riffel with Educator of the Year

Centre 6-12 Principal Trevor Siebert gives teachr Tana Riffel the USD 397 Eucator of the Year award at the Tri-County Area Chamber of Commerce 89th Annual Awards Banquet this past weekend.

“Tana has been a teacher at Centre for the past 21 years, and has been a teacher for 27 years overall. She currently teaches junior high math, but has spent a large portion of her career teaching 5th and 6th grade. Tana is a graduate of Centre High School. Her passion for the students, school and community is evident on a daily basis,” said Siebert.

Riffel was honored by the recognition.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by great teachers, students, families, and administrators throughout my career. I started at Herington Elementary and learned much from the veteran teachers in the building in the six years I taught there. I moved to Centre 21 years ago. It was the best fit for my family and as a Centre graduate, my ties to the community run deep. I work with great people. Their commitment to our students inspires me daily. This year marks a new milestone as I get to work with my daughter as a colleague. She is hired at the Marion County Special Ed Cooperative as a speech pathologist,” said Riffel. “I have spent much of my career teaching at the 5th/6th grade level, but a year ago, I made a change to Middle School Math for grades 6, 7, and 8. I love it!”
