Mieka Serene and Casey Bartel were married April 11 at First Mennonite Church, Hillsboro, with pastor Asia Frye officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Bruce and Diedre Serene of Hillsboro.

She is the granddaughter of Shirley Reusser and George Charlsen of Wichita and the late Dwayne Reus?ser, Shirley Serene of Her?ington and Don and Lorraine Serene of Port Lucie, Fla.

The groom is the son of Marlin and Cheryl Bartel of Hillsboro. He is the grandson of Myrta Bartel of Hillsboro and the late Johnnie Bartel, and Anne Bartel of Durham and the late Clarence Bartel.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory and gold lace wedding dress with cap sleeves, sheath with point d?esprit and lace applique?s, plunging V-neckline framed with crystal hand-beading, crystal buttons cascading down the back concealing a zipper closure and chapel-length train.

She carried a bouquet of liatris, purple larkspur, purple lisianthus, lavender roses, hydrangea and anemone.

Callie Serene of Hills?boro, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor.

Bridal attendants were Taryn Burgan of Galva; Kassidi Luthi of Hillsboro; Megan Janusz of Wichita and Amanda Brazell of Augusta.

Eric Bartel of Hillsboro, brother of the groom, served as best man.

Groomsmen included Brandon Emery of Polk City, Iowa; Tyler Goldsby of Salina; Cody Penner of Hillsboro and Jeremy Klose of Kansas City.

Flower girls were Myra Spencer of Wichita and Grace Emery of Polk City, Iowa. Ringbearers were Logan and Mason Bartel of Hillsboro.

The bridal attendant was Sierra Nieman of Hillsboro.

Ushers were Gavin Serene of Phoenix, Ariz., Kyle Bartel of Lawrence and Tyler Zimmerman and Daniel Zimmerman, both of Harper.

Pastor Susan Jantzen led the prayer.

The dinner and dance was at Ron Bartel?s shed, uncle of the groom.

The shed, decorated in lights and purple and gold, featured a decorated 14-foot gold glittered tree limb.

Ron?s old International Harvester truck served as the gift table with cake and cupcakes served off the tailgate.

The parents of the bride hosted the ceremony and the reception. The parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner April 10 at Olde Towne.

Following a honeymoon trip to Nashville, Tenn., the couple resides in rural Hillsboro.
