Senior Scribbles (Oct. 30, 2013)

Hillsboro Senior Center

The center is hosting Bingo Wednesday, Oct. 30, and Oct. 31, we are having a Halloween party.

Everyone is encouraged to come dressed up and win a prize.

November menus are also available. Please stop by and pick one up.

We are having chair massages Wednesday, Nov. 6, by appointment. If interested, call the center.

In addition, there is a signup sheet for our annual Thanksgiving meal, which will be at noon Thursday, Nov. 21. The deadline to sign up for the meal is Nov. 13 so our cook can get the right amount of food ordered.

Another reason for the deadline is because of seating limitations in our dining room.

We hope you will join us for a meal soon at the center. If someone knows of people to invite to our center, please let me know I can give them a meal for trying us out.

Remember anyone at any age can join us at the center.

The suggested donation for people 60 and over is $3.15 and those under 59 is $5.

If anyone knows of someone who might enjoy playing music, have them give us a call. We are looking for people to do music programs.

Anyone who volunteers will also get a free meal the day they provide a program.

We can always use more volunteers, too.

If someone can help us out, please stop by or call for more information.

We are located at 212 N. Main St., or call 620-947-2304.

Marion Senior Center

We seem to be the place to find free giveaways, including this week several cactus plants and Pat Wick?s books, ?Another Day in the Country.?

All of these items were quickly taken.

Elsie Reiswig brought birthday treats Oct. 23 and Marlene Bernhardt celebrated Oct. 24.

Donovan Schmidt presented a program on depression glass Oct. 23. He brought some of his 700-plus sets of sugar and creamers. It was a big surprise to me because I expected a different Schmidt, who talks about the Santa Fe Trail.

Gayla Ratzlaff, Marion County Department on Aging coordinator, drove our seven passengers to Hesston Senior Center Oct. 24. We attended a seminar provided to several counties as a resource in working with older people.

Come join us Nov. 6. There will be a program after lunch.

For information on volunteering, renting the senior center building or making a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 309 S. Third St.

Peppernut baking is now in full swing.

It is the center?s biggest fundraiser of the year, and we always have a lot of fun.

Baking is every Monday and Thursday until the week before Thanksgiving.

Everyone is invited to dress up for Halloween whether it?s scary, a character or something crazy.

The center is participating in the annual Halloween event downtown and donations for the little ?trick or treaters? will be appreciated.

Individually wrapped candies are appropriate, plus we will need volunteers to help with treats.

For more information or to make lunch reservations, call 620-983-2226 or stop by 106 N. Walnut.
