Senior Scribbles (May 5, 2010)

Hillsboro Senior Center

A big thank you to everyone who came to our fundraiser garage sale. We made $366.35 to help our center.

Another big thank you goes to Charles Rempel for helping raise money by being Mr. Handyman. People can call the center, and for $10 an hour, he will do jobs around your house. All proceeds from his work will benefit the center.

For more information about this program, call us.

This week, we have Mary McFadden with footcare Thursday, May 6, and Janet Herzet with Marion County Home Health will talk at 12:30 p.m.

I would like to wish all the ladies a happy Mother?s Day, and remember we have meal tickets to purchase. They make great gifts.

Volunteers are needed to set up and clean up tables for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Commodities will be available for pickup at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 14, at the center.

For more information about volunteering or to join us for a meal, call 620-947-2304 before 9 a.m. for that day.

Marion Senior Center

We finished up National Volunteer Week April 22 by honoring our dining room help, those who deliver meals (35 per day) and sign in those eating at the center.

We sang this year?s volunteer song with lots of ?doo dahs.?

Shirley Bowers brought in some mystery flowers, identified by Virginia Downing as ?Snow on the Mountain.?

Ann LeBlanc, a student at Kansas State University, made a presentation to us April 26 about the food pyramid. She is studying to be a dietician.

April 28 was National Walk at Lunch Day, so most of our 60 diners walked to Shirley Bowers playing, ?Battle Hymn of the Republic? and ?We?re Marching to Zion,? on the piano.

Jeremy Armstrong, St. Luke Hospital administrator, gave an overview of the building program at the hospital. He was introduced by Mike Norris.

Come join us Wednesday, May 12, when Merle Ecklund and Deb Harrington will bring a musical program.

Lunch reservations are due by 9 a.m. the day of the meal. For reservations, call 620-382-2942.
