hillsboro senior center

Show & Tell is Friday, and on Monday, May 30, we are closed for the Memorial Day weekend.

If you will like a frozen meal, please let us know early. June menus are available. Please stop by to pick one up. We look forward to having others join us for a meal soon.

Volunteers are necessary partners at the center . If you can help, let us know. For more information, stop by. As a way to show our gratitude for volunteering, the meal is free on the day worked.

Chair massages are June 1 and Friday, June 3.

An identity theft workshop is at 12:30 p.m., also on June 3, and will last about 45 minutes. We hope you can join us for that, but remember to call ahead of time for a meal that day. A lot of good programs are planned in June, and can be checked out on the back page of next month’s menu. Some projects the senior center has include replacing the front sidewalk where the concrete is breaking up and also getting two new taller toilets for our restrooms. Donations are still be accepted for one or both of these projects.

The center is run by donations only and expenses to operate are usually about $3,000 a month.

Along with donations, we also have fundraising events. We want to thank everyone who volunteers, can donate or lend support whenever possible. The suggested donation for our meals is $3.50 for those 60 and older and $5.25 for people 59 and under. —Brenda Moss, director

We have two sign-up sheets for those who want to participate, one for food and another for volunteers. We just know others wanted something to do, so here is your chance. Please come and be a part of our fundraising event. The Newton Community Children’s Choir came and sang. They looked sharp in their black ties and white shirts.

The seniors thoroughly enjoyed their songs and company. Shirley Davis on May 23 gave hand and/or back massages.

Our holiday brunch is at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 27, and we urge everyone not to forget this one. Those who want to order an extra meal to be delivered or picked-up, can do so by Friday., but the deadline for those reservations is Wednesday, May 25. We are closed Monday for Memorial Day, but will reopen Tuesday, with a scrumptious meat loaf dinner. We serve our meals at 11:45 a.m.

The suggested price is $3.50 for anyone 60 or older, and $5.25 for those 59 or younger. Meals are available by home delivery, pick-up, or dine-in. Frozen meals are also available. Our June menus are now ready to be picked up. Looks like we are going to have a busy June. We will have massages set up starting June 6 from 10-11:30 a.m. and coordinator of the Marion County Department on Aging, Gayla Ratzlaff, will be here for lunch and a visit about the tai chi exercise program. Birthday dinner with piano music is scheduled June 8 and on June 13 is our board meeting and speaker Mitzi Bailey with Heartland Enriching Life (Hospice).
