Senior Scribbles (May 2, 2012)

hillsboro senior center

We want to thank everyone who came out to our fundraiser Saturday and appreciate all the support in helping the center. In addition, we appreciated the city of Hillsboro for letting us have the fireworks show, along with our gratitude to our board members for their hard work and Charles Rempel for a great fireworks display.

The center is ready for May. How time flies.

Roger Fleming, Marion County Commissioner, is speaking Wednesday, May 2, after the noon meal.

Another highlight this week is having everyone bring pictures of their mother Friday, May 4. We hope many people will have a picture to share with us and great stories to tell.

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to assist in setting the tables for lunch and cleaning up afterwards, including help with drying dishes.

We have great meals and look forward to others joining us for lunch and fellowship. Meals are $2.75 for those 60 and older and $4.50 for anyone 59 and younger.

Reservations are due on or before 9 a.m. the day of the meal.

For more information on volunteering, programs, appointments or other center activities, call 620-947-2304. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Marion senior center

We seem to be having a bring-in-your-blooms competition going on.

There are four vases of iris and one rose here. The rose was brought in by Lanell Hett and the iris by Roger Bitner, Wilma Gilmer and Shirley Bowers.

Residents of Marion Assisted Living ate with us April 19. We had volunteer recognition of our meal delivery people, dining room workers, roundtable ladies (hostesses) and others. Many volunteers are needed to keep the nutrition site operating.

The Craft Corner has baby quilts and embroidered tea towels for sale. There is always a quilt being sewn also.

The penny jar is full and people are guessing the total amount of money inside. This is a fun fundraiser.

The Marion County Department on Aging honored its volunteers April 25. They included newsletter assemblers and drivers for out-of-town appointments.

We welcomed residents of Hilltop Manor that day and especially Ivanlee Timm, who now resides at St. Luke Living Center.

Come join us May 9 when Ron and Connie Shipman will bring a musical program. Ron plays guitar, Connie plays the fiddle and they both sing.

For more information on programs, or to make a lunch reservation at the center, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.

Peabody senior center

This week Linda Eden will be leading us in observance of the National Day of Prayer May 3 following lunch.

Our monthly birthday dinner and celebration is May 10. In addition, blood pressure checks will be done by Peabody Care Center and Dan D?Albini, director of Marion County Emergency Preparedness, will talk about a disaster plan.

Please remember the importance of calling to make your reservation the day before you plan to eat. It is very difficult for our cook to prepare the correct amount of food if she doesn’t have ample notice on how many will attend.

We are located at 106 N. Walnut or call 620-983-2226. If you call after hours we have an answering machine that will pick up and you can make your reservation that way.

We keep an ongoing reservation list and menus if something sounds especially good to eat.
