hillsboro senior center

Haris Zafar is here at 11 a.m. May 18 for hearing aid checks. After the noon meal on May 18, we are playing bingo. Marion County Sheriff Rob Craft plans to visit with us after lunch Thursday, May 19. Our birthday dinner is on May 23, and just a reminder that we are closed Memorial Day May 30.

We hope others will join us for a meal at the senior center. The June menu will be available soon, and we are having an identity theft workshop at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 3. For those who would like to have lunch, please call ahead of time so we have a good count on how many will be here. The program will last about 45 minutes.

We have some programs in June, so check the back of the menus for those when we get them out. Volunteers are needed, and for those who can spare a couple of hours one or more days a month, call or stop by the center for more information at 620-947-2304. We want to thank all our volunteers for their help and support at the center.Brenda moss director

The suggested donation for our meals is $3.50 for those 60 and older and $5.25 for people 59 and under. We are also in need of volunteers. If anyone wants to help, please call or come by 212 N. Main St. To make a reservation or for other information, call the 620-947-2304.

We welcomed the Aulne Church birthday group May 5. They were honoring the May birthday of Leonard Smith.

To acknowledge Mother’s Day, I read Erma Bobbeck’s classic, “When God Created Mothers.”

We put the photo of Lanell and Lindsay Hett on the bulletin board, featured in the Salina Journal mother-daughter look alike article in the Sunday newspaper.

Lanell works in the office of the Department on Aging in this building.

Warren Smith found himself volunteered to help Jackie Hett deliver meals one day. It was a learning experience.

Come join us May 25 when Shari Schmidt’s children will present the program.

PEABODY senior center

We’ve had lots of fun earlier this week and last week, too.

Starting May 9, Rachel Peabody was gracious in providing our seniors with much needed back and hand massages. Truly enjoyable. Wednesday, May 11, was our birthday party. We really had a great turnout. Sonja Koslowsky of Peabody, played the piano during lunch and afterwards we had a sing-a-long.

Such a great day, to sit and visit with ones we haven’t seen for awhile. May 12, Gayla Ratzlaff, coordinator for Marion County Department on Aging, had lunch with us. She brought activity books that are always full of ideas to use at our center. She took time to answer a few questions and gave us some good ideas.

We have our board meeting at 9 a.m. May 16. A blood drive was also at Gracepoint Church, 802 Vine.

Our center is welcoming singers from Newton Community Children’s Choir on May 18.

Nine children from this choir are from Peabody. Please come and enjoy the program.

Remember, Peabody Senior Center is closed May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.

Plan ahead and order your meal by May 25. Call us at 620-983-2226.Frozen meals will be delivered or can be picked up by May 27.

The senior center will reopen Tuesday, May 31, with meatloaf dinner.

We serve meals Monday through Friday at 11:45 a.m.

The suggested cost is $3.50 for anyone 60 or over and $5.25 for those age 59 and under. Meals are available by home delivery, pick-up, or dine-in. Frozen meals are also available. Our June menus are ready to be picked up. Stop by and have lunch with us.

The center opens at 9 a.m. and we are located at 106 N. Walnut.
