Senior Scribbles (March 9, 2016)

hillsboro senior center

This week we have bingo after lunch March 9 and then on March 10 is our jam session. Friday, March 11, the Australian weather team will be here for a great program. We also have games and fellowship Mondays af?ter the noon meal.

We want to thank everyone who came to our breakfast fundraiser Saturday and helped support the center.

We will have Judge Michael Powers here March 14 after the noon meal.

We need those donations to help with our daily bills and expenses. It takes a lot to get through each month.

The money that you put in the box for your meal goes to North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging, and any extra goes to the senior center.

We also need help with volunteers. If interested, call 947-2304. Remember anyone, any age can eat at the senior center.

The suggested donation for people 60 and older is $3.50 and for people 59 and younger, the cost is $5.25.

For more in?formation, stop by the center at 212 N. Main St., or call us at 620-947-2304.

Spring is looking very close now. We haven’t had a bad winter, but spring has new life and new growth. It always revives my spirit.

On Friday, March 18, we are hosting the monthly Senior Citizens of Marion County meeting. We encourage everyone to sign up and join us as these meetings. There?s lots of information for seniors. Our business meeting is March 22 after lunch.

If you are looking for a part-time job, I have a wonderful one to tell you about. The Peabody Senior Center is looking for a site manager. The hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It?s a rewarding position for someone who is looking for a supplement to their income or for something to do in helping others. Come by the Center at 106 N. Walnut and apply.

Our Lenten devotions are continuing through the Wednesday before Easter. These have been very inspirational devotions that are leading us to the Re?sur?rec?tion weekend. Pastor Angela DeFisher with the Methodist church will be with us today. Pastor Jim Pohlman with the Christian Church will be here March 16, and pastor Rodger Charles will lead the final devotion on March 23. If you aren’t able to have lunch, drop by about noon and take in the devotion.

Randolph Whitely, Pea?body medical doctor, will be here Monday, March 14, for ?Lunch with the Doctor.?

Starting next month he will go back to his normal schedule of the third Wed?nes?day of each month. He talks to us about health issues that are pertinent to our health and welfare.

St. Patrick?s Day is March 17. We will be celebrating it here at the center. Come join us for lunch and the festivities.

Easter brunch is at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 25. We will have biscuits and gravy with a cinnamon roll or blueberry muffin. This will be the last brunch for a while.
