Senior Scribbles (March 22, 2017)

hillsboro senior center

Spring is here and let’s hope it stays that way. We are also hoping others will join us at the senior center.

If anyone has program ideas, please let us know.

This week we have a lot of activities planned to include “Show n’ Tell,” on March 24. Everyone is encouraged to bring anything to share.

Monday, March 27, is the center’s birthday meal. We are having our Easter dinner Friday, April 14, and if interested, please sign up by April 3.

Volunteers and substitute Meals on Wheels drivers are needed.

In addition, the senior center men that play pool from 2-4 p.m. are looking for more players. We have a few that cannot come anymore. For those who want to play, the group starts at 2 p.m. Monday through Friday with a donation of $2.

For those who would like to enjoy a meal with us, the cost for people 60 and older is $3.50, and those age 59 and younger is $5.25.

For more information, call 620-947-2304, or stop by 212 N. Main St., Hillsboro.

We welcomed a new dining room volunteer his week. Barbara Hardin will come in on Thursdays. Rosalie Schmidtberger also wants that day If you’d like to be part of this fun crew, give us a call 620-382-2942.

We were honored to be the place people came following Evelyn Jewett’s funeral on March 9. She was a special person at the senior center for many years, so it was an appropriate site to gather and reminisce.

We welcomed the Harvest House group March 10. Bring your group in for lunch any time.

We have information about the annual KU Medical Center photography contest. Last year a photo of Jackie Hett was one of the winners.

The ONE committee met here on March 14. It consists of the county site managers and others, chaired by Connie Omstead. We welcomed the Aulne United Methodist Church group celebrating Jackie Hett’s birthday.

Senior Center Day was March 15. The business meeting was conducted by Sue Clough. A fascinating program was given by Chris Costello, who brought his drones to show us.

Come join us March 29 for a musical program by Gerry Henderson and Keith Allison.

We had a good week, which ended with a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

We served people from all over Marion County as we hosted the meeting, Senior Citizens of Marion County.

It was a fun day. We finished the luncheon with a few Irish sayings, and Sue Clough sang a beautiful Irish song and the dinner ended with an Irish blessing.

Our business meeting was March 21. and Wednesday, March 22, pastor Roger Charles provided the Lent service.

Don’t forget that from 5:30-6:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, a free soup supper is provided, pick-ups start at 6:30 p.m., and everyone is welcome.

On March 29, pastor Jim Truax will be our guest speaker.

Marion County Extension Agent Renae Riedy is our guest speaker on “Enhancing on Aging,” which is our last presentation.

Riedy will be leaving us and starting a new adventure, but we appreciate all her hard work putting these presentations together.

Meals are $3.50 for age 60 and older, and $5.25 for age 59 and younger.

For more information or to make meal reservations, call 620-983-2226. And, for those who can’t come in, call and we will deliver. Hope you have a good week.
