Senior Scribbles (Mar. 6, 2013)

hillsboro senior center

March is here and we hope to jump into spring soon, but we are grateful for the moisture. We would rather have spring showers then snow showers, though.

We have cards and games planned at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, and after lunch, we will play Bingo because we didn?t play last week.

Don?t forget Daylight Savings Time Sunday, March 10, and springing forward.

Donna Becker will be here Tuesday, March 12, and present a program, ?Humor Me,? after lunch.

Don?t forget to get your tickets for the center?s Saturday, March 16, fundraising event at the Milk and Honey Bed & Breakfast. The cost is $100 per person with all proceeds going to the senior center. We hope others can join us.

Remember any one at any age can join us for lunch. The cost is $3.15 for those age 60 and over and $5 for anyone age 59 and under

Peabody senior center

March is off to a quick start and after the blast of winter that we received at the end of February, everyone will be grateful for the approaching spring.

Of course, that is not to minimize our thankfulness for the much-needed moisture that most had been praying for fervently for quite some time.

We will be continuing with our Lenten Services each Wednesday throughout March. Easter is March 31.

Our persons leading the devotions each Wednesday are: March 6, Jean Newfield; March 13, Marilyn Cox; March 20, Rodger Charles and March 27, Larry Timm.

We welcome you to come share a meal and the devotion with us, just give us a call the day before and make your reservation.

This month?s board meeting will be Monday, March 11. We will also be having liver and onions that day with an alternative of grilled chicken patty. Those planning to attend might want to come down and have some input in the business of the center and then stay for a delicious lunch. Again just call and make your reservations the day before.

We are also having ?Dinner with the Doctor? Tuesday, March 12. Randolph Whitely, medical doctor, will be speaking on dementia. He will also have a question and answer opportunities after his talk. Come join us.

We are hosting the Marion County Board meeting Friday, March 15. This will be another information-packed meeting. It is so good to be able to be aware of what is happening in the world to and for the seniors.

World Day of Prayer was scheduled Friday, March 1, but because of the snow accumulation the program could not be practiced so it was postponed until Friday, March 22. Please mark that change on your calendar so you will be able to join us for that event.

Meals are provided each weekday at 11:45 a.m. for $3.15 for those age 60 or older. Anyone is welcome to eat with us at the senior center. For those not yet 60 the cost is $5 and includes dessert and drink. It?s still a great bargain.

Come join us and get in the swing of things

For more information or to make a lunch reservation, the center?s telephone number is 620-983-2226.

We look forward to seeing you at 106 S. Walnut St.
