Senior Scribbles (June 20, 2012)

HILLSBORO SENIOR CENTER

Hope everyone had a great Father?s Day.

This week we will have hearing aid checks with Haris Zafar at 11 a.m. June 20 along with a business meeting to include the senior center board.

June 20 also marks the first day of summer and hot weather. One way to get out of the heat is to stop by the center for a cup of coffee or even a cold glass of water and come and try us for a noon meal.

Charles Rempel will no longer collect cans but people can still drop them in the white barrels by the center?s back door and they will get picked up.

We want to thank everyone who has helped out with the cans.

The July calendars are now available and we encourage people to stop by and pick one up. We are grateful to Emprise Bank for making copies of our monthly menu at no charge.

Remember that everyone is welcome to join us for a meal at the center, no matter what their age. Meals are $2.75 for 60 and older and $4.50 for people 59 and younger. It?s a good price for a lunch meal with fellowship included.

For more information on volunteering, programs, appointments or other center activities, call 620-947-2304. To make meal reservations, please call no later than 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Hope to see you at the center soon.

PEABODY SENIOR CENTER

Thanks to everyone who came out to our biscuits and gravy breakfast fundraiser. It was a huge success and everyone seemed to really enjoy the food and fellowship.

Thanks also to the ladies and gentlemen working behind the scene to make it all come together. It takes everyone to make things like this happen.

We have wonderful people in Peabody and once again we made it happen.

Don?t forget ?Show and Tell? Thursday. Bring something that?s interesting and share it with the group. We have done this in the past and it proved very entertaining. The item can be antique, new, large, small, serious, funny, whatever you want to share and can get in the building.

Wii bowling has really dwindled off at the center and we would like to revive it. Please join us June 27 for a Wii bowling tournament right after lunch. The last one had to be cancelled because we had no bowlers, so please come out and enjoy the company and get some exercise. We look forward to seeing you there.

Join us for lunch each day at 11:45 a.m., which includes fun, fellowship and a delicious balanced meal. We look forward to having you there. Call 24 hours in advance so we can set another place at the table.

To make a meal reservation, volunteer or to ask a question, call 620-983-2226 or come by 106 N. Walnut St.
