Senior Scribbles (July 5, 2017)

hillsboro senior center

We will be closed July 4, and we hope everyone has a safe holiday. On July 7, Esther Funk will be playing music for us over lunch. We will have foot care July, call for more information. Dr. Zafar will be here at 11 a.m. July 19 to check hearing aids.

If anyone has a program idea to share with us at the center call 620-947-2304; you get a meal for presenting your program idea to us.

We can also use more volunteers; we need a sub-head cook to fill in when our cook needs off or is ill. You will get training for your this; the hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the pay is $7.25 an hour. Stop by the center for more information. We can also use a sub-dishwasher from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Call or stop by the center for more information.

We want to thank Salem Home for helping us with Meals on Wheels. They take two weeks out of the month to help us. It is a great service to our center. Many of their staff help do the Meals on Wheels. Everyone enjoys visiting with them.

We want to say a big thank-you to all the families for the memorials you have given in honor of your loved ones. It is a big blessing to our center. We hope you can join us soon for a meal soon.

Marion senior center

We’ve been honoring some of the volunteers who have filled in since the official volunteer week in April. We’ve given special pins to Cruz Carrasco, Shirley Moore, Jerry Kline and Virginia Hammond. Our senior center could not function without volunteers.

Norma Kline invited four friends for lunch on the 26th. They had been coworkers at the Marion County Courthouse.

Harlow Warneke grilled hamburgers for us on the 28th. Watch for this menu in July.

The program on the 28th was given by Joe Hirsch of Sunflower State Tours. He is enthusiastic about Kansas! He brought the van used on the tours so we could see how comfortable it is.

PEABODY SENIOR CENTER

Happy Fourth of July. Here’s hoping you had a good one. We had our holiday brunch June 30. We with a lot of folks having reunions or get-togethers, we decided we would celebrate the holiday early.

We were closed July 4 but we are ready to go July 5 as we welcome our guest speaker, Myrta Billings. We hope you can come. She has many suggestions to give us, such as cooking for one or two, how to make your dollar go further, and great nutrition ideas. She will be here July 12 as well.

Grief Share will be Tuesday, July 11, with pastor Rick Schrag from 3-4:30 p.m. July 12 is our birthday dinner with Sonja Koslowsky at the piano and a program by Myrta Billings. July 14 is Pizza Day; July 16 is dinner with Dr. Whitely discussing skin cancer, so bring questions. July 17 is our board meeting. July 21 is the Senior Citizens of Marion County meeting at Burns.

Our July menus are ready to be picked up. We are looking for volunteers to be drivers or a kitchen aide. Stop by and sign up for a day and try us out. This month I would like to see how many of us can bring a friend along to dine.
