Senior Scribbles (July 25, 2012)

hillsboro senior center

Marion County Fair days begin July 25 and we hope others can come and join us for a meal, fellowship and Bingo.

Also, don?t forget to attend the Marion County Fair parade Wednesday, but be sure to bring plenty of water because it is expected to be another hot day.

Show and Tell is July 27 and we encourage everyone to bring fair memories.

The center?s monthly birthday dinner is July 30 and we hope to see you there.

We are always interested in where people have been and if someone has taken a trip and would like to share their pictures and talk about their trip. Let us know.

More volunteers are still needed at the center and anyone who helps will get their lunch free on the day they work.

August menus are available and can be picked up at the center. For those unable to come to the center, let us know and we will mail a menu.

For more information on volunteering, classes or other center activities, call 620-947-2304. The deadline to make reservations is 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Hope to see you soon.

We hosted the North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging board meeting July 17. The group met at the Marion Community Building and then came to eat at the senior center.

There were 40 people from the agency?s 18-county area. We arranged our seating so they could mingle. From the lively buzz of conversation, it seemed everyone enjoyed the luncheon.

Senior Center Day was July 18. Sue Clough, president of the senior center, conducted the business meeting. Pastor Andrew West, newly assigned to Valley United Methodist Church, was the speaker.

We will celebrate National Day of the Cowboy Friday, July 27. Everyone is encouraged to wear cowboy hats, boots, bandannas and other festive clothing.

We will read cowboy poetry and sing, ?Home on the Range.?

Come join us Aug. 1 with a program planned after lunch.

For more information on programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.
