Senior Scribbles (July 21, 2010)

Hillsboro Senior Center

Lanell Hett of the Marion County Department on Aging, was our guest speaker earlier this week. She spoke about transportation services within the county.

Wednesday, July 21, is our Carry-In meal at noon with Joyce Barkman of the Milk & Honey Bed and Breakfast hosting the event.

We will be having our birthday lunch July 26 with Ann Sheperd playing the piano after lunch. We will also be sharing memories of ?fair days.?

The center welcomes anyone who would like to join us for lunch and programs. We also want to thank our volunteers for their help and support at the center.

Salmon patty (alternate) chicken patty, noodles Romanoff, peas and carrots, wheat roll, Jell-O with fruit, milk.

WEDNESDAY, July 28

Turkey slices, mashed potatoes, gravy, lettuce with dressing, wheat bread, cantaloupe, milk.

Next week, Bingo will be held at the center, Wednesday July 21.

In addition, ventriloquist Larry Temple will round out the month July 27, along with birthday recognitions.

We are still waiting for the tomato fairy to arrive. Maybe the oil spill in the gulf created problems for her too

Marlene Anduss brought a decorated cake in to celebrate her birthday July 9.

Sue Clough, just back from a trip to Wyoming, told about opening a Sunday newspaper there to see a photo and article about the Chase County Courthouse. Ivanlee Timm had brought in his Sunday Herington newspaper with the same supplement.

We had a spur-of-the-moment almost change in our July 13 menu, having shrimp again. We are not sure how long this bounty will last.

Charles Montgomery brought treats for his birthday July 13.

We had a singalong on July 14 with Sue Clough as the song leader and Shirley Bowers as pianist. Another singalong is planned Sept. 1.

Our program July 28 will be one provided by St. Luke Hospial with Cheryl Simmons.

One last reminder of National Day of the Cowboy with Dusty Bina and his horse, cowboy poetry and a chance to wear your western duds.

The ?Poem in Your Pocket? group will meet at 7 p.m. July 22 at Marion City Library, 101 Library St.

Marion County Democratic Women will meet after lunch, Friday, July 23, at Marion Senior Senter.
