MARION SENIOR CENTER

We had our first cookout of the summer June 29. Ed Riffel grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. We also had potato salad, coleslaw and watermelon.

Thelma Blosser brought mints with smiley faces, so Sue Clough led us in a few smile songs.

Our July cookout will be Saturday, July 27. Plan to attend.

We observed July 4 on July 3 by pledging allegiance to the flag, singing ?The Star Spangled Banner.?

Then we had some trivia from the Sunday newspaper, ?Parade,? insert. We had greetings from Joan Meyer?s friend in Europe.

Harden Hospice personnel gave the program July 3. They also brought cookies for us.

Gene Winkler brought birthday treats July 1. Instead of our usual edible treats, we each got a keychain with a tiny flashlight.

Our quilters need quilts to work on. Call 620-382-2942.

Come on Senior Day July 17. Bonnie Holtsclaw will provide the musical program.

For information on volunteering, renting the senior center building or making a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal. We are located at 309 S. Third St.

PEABODY SENIOR CENTER

The July 4 holiday is history for another year, along with the family gatherings, picnics, reunions, lake trips and all the other activities associated with the holiday.

Now it?s time to get back to day-to-day living and the heat of July and the heat seems to be coming on strong.

Because July is starting out as a hot month, I might remind everyone that friends and neighbors are gathering at noon and letting the senior center do the cooking.

Everyone is invited to enjoy air conditioning while leisurely visiting and enjoying themselves. Why not call in, make a reservation and come join in the fun? We?d love to have you, and we have lots of good meals and entertainment planned this month.

Birthday dinner will be Kim Nellan?s delicious oven-fried chicken with all the trimmings, plus birthday cake on Thursday, July 11.

Be sure to sign up if you sport a July birthday. If not, sign up anyway and help celebrate. It?s always a fun time.

This month we will have Jill Moore with Showalter Villa show us how to live healthier, happier and longer. Be sure not to miss the program because we all want to do that.

Randolph Whitely, medical doctor, will be here Monday, July 15, for ?Dinner With the Doctor.?

He is always very interesting and informative and will answer questions that you may have.

Also on July 15 we will have our monthly board meeting at 9:30 a.m. Anyone is welcome to come to the board meeting to find out what is going on at the center or to add input for what they would like to see included. We welcome all ideas and opinions.

Bingo is Thursday, July 18. Please bring a couple of candy bars for the prize basket and come play with us.

For more information, stop by 106 N. Walnut or call us at 620-983-2226.

Meals are at 11:45 a.m. and are by reservation, so we will be sure to have ample food for everyone.

The cost is $3.15 for those 60 and above and everyone else is welcome to eat with us for $5.

Give us a call or come by, we?ll be glad to see you.
