Senior Scribbles (January 10, 2018)

HILLSBORO senior center

Our jam session is Thursday, Jan. 11. In addition, new board members will be announced soon.

The center is closed Monday, Jan. 15, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

For those needing frozen meals for that day or an extra hot meal, orders will go out Friday, Jan. 12. If interested, let us know.

Tickets are still available for a chance at winning a motorcycle. Anybody who would like to purchase one or more tickets can do so through the month of January.

The goal for sales is 300 tickets and we want to sell about 180 more at $10 each.

For more information or if we can help people wanting to purchase tickets, call us at 620-947-2304 or stop by 212 N. Main St., Hillsboro.

All of us at the center thank everyone for their support.

We hope to see others join us for a meal.

Marion senior center

We ended December with a birthday: Joyce Jackson brought treats Dec. 29. We invite our people to share their special days with us in this way.

Now we’re ready for 2018 and our signature celebrations: Elvis, Poem in Your Pocket Day, National Day of the Cowboy, Cow Appreciation Day, National Fork Day and Mickey Mouse’s birthday to name a few.

We also have programs on most Wednesdays and have card playing (Hand and Foot) most afternoons.

Join us on Senior Center Day, Jan. 17.

We are closed Jan. 15 for the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday. If the schools close for bad weather, we will close. Watch your television for this information. We have not had to close for a winter or so.

PEABODY SENIOR CENTER

New Year’s has come and gone—are we survivors or what! I tried not to be up at midnight but for some reason, my sisters and brothers decided to all text me from 11:30 p.m. to pass midnight. So much for a good night sleep. Just kidding—it’s always good to hear from them. Best wishes to all of you this New Year!

Birthday Dinner will be Wednesday Jan. 10 with physician Randolph Whitely presenting a program, Rachel giving chair massages, and Sonja Koslowsky at the piano. We will be closed Monday Jan. 15 for Martin Luther King Day. Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday Jan. 16, and the Senior Citizens of Marion County will meet Friday, Jan. 19 at Hillsboro.

Gayla Ratzlaff will be here from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Jan. 25, to work with you on LIEAP, Homestead and taxes. Be sure to call 620-983-2226 and we will set up a time for you. For those who won’t have all their information before the 25th, Gayla will also come to our center on Feb. 8, if needed. You will need to get in touch with us, and we will set up a time.

You have a great week and we look forward to your visit.

Meals are $3.50 for age 60-plus and $5.25 for age 59 and under. For more information or to make a reservation, call 620-983-2226.
