Senior Scribbles (Jan. 13, 2010)

Hello from the Hillsboro Senior Center.

Hope everyone is staying warm during these cold temperatures. Last week we held elections for the center?s board of directors.

Our new board includes Ray Matz, president; Charles Rempel, vice-president; Velma Hadley, secretary; Joyce Barkmen, treasurer; and Plato Shepherd, board member.

We also want to give Pizza Hut a big thank you for donating 15 percent of sales from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, to help the center in its fundraising efforts.

This week we will have foot care and Antique Day on Thursday, Jan. 14. We hope everyone will bring an antique to share.

A county board meeting is planned Friday, Aug. 15, with Peggy Goertzen will provide a program after lunch. In addition, commodity pickup will be available starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

The center will be closed Monday, Jan. 18 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.?s birthday.

Diedra Serene, director of Marion County Health Department, will be giving H1N1 flu shots at no cost starting at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19. To sign-up for a flu shot, call the center at 947-2304.

For those who would like to join us for lunch, please call by 9 a.m.

Hope everyone has a blessed week.
