Senior Scribbles (February 21, 2018)

HILLSBORO senior center

We want to thank everyone who came to our Valentine dinner.

We had a great turnout. Haris Zafar will be here at 11 a.m. Wednesday to do hearing aid checks. Show and Tell is Friday, Feb. 21, and if someone plans to participate, bring something to show.

Our birthday dinner is at noon, Monday, Feb. 26, and will are having a breakfast fundraiser on Saturday March 10. More information will appear in a later article.

We need more volunteers, and if someone might want to help out, please let us know.

Anyone who works that day will have lunch free.

The motorcycle drawing will be soon. We are planning to set a date in March and tickets are still being sold. The cost for a chance is $10, with all proceeds going to the senior center.

We have some great programs coming up in March and the new menus will be coming out shortly.

We want to thank our board members for all they do, and to everyone for their support.

Don’t forget that we have meal tickets available for purchase, and they are good gift ideas.

For more information, or to find out about volunteering or program ideas, call 620-947-2304 or stop by 212 N. Main St., Hillsboro. You get a meal the day you help.

We hope everyone enjoyed Valentine’s Day. We sure did. Our volunteers finished their project and completed 150 homemade Valentines for Peabody Health and Rehab, Westview Manor, our home deliveries and pick-ups, and our volunteers.

It was such a fun, busy day, celebrating birthdays, getting free back massages by Rachel Gfeller, listening to piano music by Sonja Koslowsky, and having pastor Angela DeFisher giving our Lenten devotion, and of course, the Valentine’s Day celebration. Thank you all for being here.

Peabody Health will be coming at 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday to give free blood pressure readings.

Marta Billings will be giving a program on Eat, Smart and Live Smart on Feb. 26-26 and March 1-2 after lunch.

Lenten devotions will be presented by local pastors and laymen every Wednesday through March 21. The Peabody Methodist Church is having a free soup supper from 5:30-6:45 p.m. every Wednesday night through March 21.

We are still looking for volunteers to help in the kitchen, drivers and, yes, even card players. Anyone up for that? Our center lost a special volunteer, Martha Fisher, last week. She will be remembered as a very caring, giving and ornery person, in other words, fun to be around.

Stop by, pick up our March menu, and have lunch with us.

Meals are $3.50 for age 60-plus and $5.25 for age 59 and under. For more information or to make a reservation, call 620-983-2226.
