Senior Scribbles (Feb. 9, 2011)

hillsboro senior center

We were closed two days last week because of the cold temperatures. Remember to always watch the news stations to see if we are closed. Channel 12 always has the announcements.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, but we were wanting to keep everyone safe.

Come in for a cup of hot coffee and a great meal and fellowship.

Programs in February will include Jeremy Armstrong, chief executive officer at St. Luke Hospital, at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 10.

Mandy Smith with i-Kan Low Vision &?Blindness will be at the center at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 14.

The Valentine’s dinner, beginning at noon, Feb. 14, will have a special dessert bar and music by Jona Baltzer. Anyone planning to attend is urged to RSVP by Feb. 9.

Nancy Pihl will provide the program at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 15. She plans to discuss calcium, vitamin D and bone health.

We encourage everyone to attend our programs and enjoy a hot meal too.

We also want to thank our staff and volunteers for getting out and the Meals on Wheels drivers during those cold, slick days.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Feb. 24, the center will offer foot care. Anyone interested can call for an appointment.

Tickets are still available for the Feb. 21 fundraising event at Milk & Honey Bed and Breakfast. The event begins at 6 p.m. and tickets are $100 per person.

Hugs, smiles, jokes, and kind friendship are all shared at the AGAPE center and everyone is invited to be a part of it.

Church committees, study groups, and community clubs are also encouraged to enjoy our facility for lunch-time gatherings, perhaps on a weekly or monthly basis.

We can set up a special table for you.

Everyone is invited to learn more about the City of Goessel Feb. 16 when we will hear from Public Works Director Karen Dalke after lunch. On Feb. 23, Goessel Police Chief Eric Reed will be sharing with us.

Other programs include the monthly potluck at 6 p.m. Feb. 18 with musical entertainment provided by “Sweet Assurance,” a womens group from McPherson.

We will be closed Feb. 21 to observe President’s Day. Extra meals will be available for this day on the Feb. 18 for those interested.
