Senior Scribbles (Feb. 2, 2011)

Hillsboro Senior Center

Hello from the senior center and here we are into February already.

We are having a Valentine dinner at noon Feb. 14 with a special dessert bar and music by Jona Baltzer. Anyone planning to attend is asked to RSVP Feb. 9.

In addition to the Valentine dinner, there will be a board meeting at 12:45 p.m. Feb. 7 and Donna Becker with”Humor Me” at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 9.

Foot care begins at 9 a.m. Feb. 24 and participants are encouraged to call the center for an appointment.

The center has 11 tables for sale at $25 each. If interested, call or stop by.

We would like to thank the Kansas Humanities Council for funding Jim Hoy of Emporia Jan. 28. It was a great program to go along with Kansas’s 150 years.

Come and join us for a great meal and fellowship by reserving a place before 9 a.m. the day of the meal. Anyone is welcome to join us. The cost is $2.75 for those 60 and over and $4.50 for people 59 and under.

We are needing volunteers from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to help set tables for lunch and then clean up after lunch. All volunteers get a free meal the day they help.

For more information or to make appointments, call 620-947-2304. We are located at 212 N. Main St.

Marion senior center

The senior center is proud of its two celebrities. Lenora Graham was featured on Larry Hatteberg’s People, Channel 10, and Evelyn Jewett was interviewed for “Keynotes,” a news magazine published by Area Agency on Aging. Jewett is also in charge of quilting and the craft corner.

Darrell and Beulah Weigart celebrated their wedding anniversary Jan. 21. Their daughter, Julie Neuwirth, was also present to celebrate her birthday.

We are nearly done reading the story that goes with the mystery puzzle. The clues in the story are in the puzzle itself.

We had a program on Kansas Jan. 26. Shirley Moore read some facts about our state and we sang, “Home on the Range.”

Come join us Feb. 9 when Shirley Bowers and Sue Clough will have a musical program.

For more information on programs or to make a lunch reservation, call 620-382-2942 by 9 a.m. the day of the meal or stop by the center, 309 S. Third St.
