Senior Scribbles (December 30, 2015)

HILLSBORO SENIOR CENTER

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is getting ready for a new year.

January menus are available, and we encourage everyone to stop by and pick one. As a reminder, please remember that if the school closes because of snow or ice the center will be closed, too.

For those unsure if the center is open, go to channels 3, 10 or 12. If we are supposed to get a lot of snow and ice and see Hillsboro schools are closed, we will be close for the safety of everyone. The center is closed on New Year?s Day.

We want to thank whoever gave an anonymous donation to our senior center. It was a great blessing, as were all the donations everyone else has given this year.

We have Pizza Hut cards for sale at $10 with the center keeping $9 of that money, which will help, too.

Volunteers are needed. If interested, please contact the center at 620-947-2304 or stop by 212 Main St. Our regular hours for the center are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

MARION SENIOR CENTER

We hosted the Marion County Senior Citizens County Board Dec. 18 at the center. A special part of that meeting was the vocal solo of ?O Holy Night,? by Sue Clough.

The always efficient newsletter crew came on Dec. 21. They included Sue Clough, Mary Hett, Barb and Larry Smith, Elsie Reiswig, Irmagene Goodman, Pat Busey, Evelyn Jewett, Shirley Bowers and Al and Gloria Ash.

A group of Marion Elementary School third graders came to sing Christmas carols that morning directed by Thomas Labotte.

One of our volunteers, Pam Varenhorst, brought in a beverage dispenser Dec. 23, and we had party punch to drink. We had a carol sing after lunch with Sue Clough as song leader and Keith Allison, pianist.

We are closed New Year?s day. Come join us Jan. 6 when Chris Hernandez, the local Edward Jones agent will speak. Elvis will be here at 7 p.m. Jan. 7. Get out your poodle skirt and saddle Oxfords for an evening of music, moves and memories.

For more information or to make a reservation, call 620-382-2942, or stop by 309 S. Third St., Marion.

PEABODY SENIOR CENTER

It?s been a wonderful year, and we are grateful for having the opportunity to serve you with delicious meals during 2015. Please let us continue the tradition in 2016 at 11:45 a.m. each week day.

We look forward to seeing you. We are serving more people each day, and we are so thankful for being able to do that.

We have several avenues available to meet your needs including meals served in the dining room and the Meals on Wheels program we deliver each day. Some people even come in and pick up a meal each day at 10:45 a.m. or noon.

All these options are available to anyone that would like to take advantage of them. Our meals are at a suggested donation of $3.50 for those age 60 and older, and only $5.25 for those who are not yet seniors.

Either one is so reasonable for a balanced nutritious meal. Call us for reservations at 620-983-2226 or come by 106 N Walnut. We really look forward to seeing you.

Don’t forget to make your reservation for New Year?s Eve day, and listening to Bob and The Boys. This promises to be the Grand Finale to 2015.

January menus are out so stop by and pick up a copy

We are located at 106 N. Walnut, and we would love to hear from you.
