hillsboro senior center

We will have footcare on Tuesday, Dec. 15, and hearing aid checks with Haris Zafar Dec. 16. For more information, call us. Our Christmas dinner is Friday, Dec. 18, but no more reservations are being taken. We are closed Dec. 24-25 for the holiday. Anyone who would like a frozen dinner for those days is asked to let us know in advance. We are still selling meal tickets, which make a great gift. We want to thank everyone who has donated to our senior center, and express our gratitude to Barkman Honey for its matching donation. We hope those new to the community will stop by and join us soon. For those who know of someone interested in attending, bring them by for a meal. We can show them we have great fellowship here at our senior center.

We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information or to make reservations, call 620-947-2304 or stop by 212 N. Main St. between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

We had our first ever Christmas talent show Dec. 9 with 13 selections offered.

Our vocal soloists were Sue Clough, Madonna Schafers and Connie Fisher. Keith Allison played two piano selections plus accompanying the soloists.

We also had piano music by Shirley Bowers. There were four readers of Christmas selections: Pam Varenhorst, Jon Meyer, Sue Clough and Norma Kline. We?ll do a talent show again.

Commodities were boxed up on Dec. 9 also with the efficient crew of Sue Clough, Vicki Kaempfe and Kathy Beeton. Bill Kaempfe brought the commodities in from the parking lot.

The veteran?s representative was here Dec. 8. She will be back at 11 a.m. Feb. 9.

We will begin an exercise class at 11 a.m. Fridays. This will begin Jan. 8 with instructors from St. Luke Hospital?s physical therapy department, Alex Brooks and Matt Vermillion.

Come join us Dec. 23 for a carol sing after lunch with Sue Clough and Keith Allison.

Our Christmas light tour was a huge success again, and we want to thank everyone that helped with it.

Dinner with the Doctor is back on schedule. We are glad Randolph Whitely, medical doctor, is back from deployment and with us again. He will be here on the third Wednesday of each month throughout the year. He also welcomes topic suggestions. If someone would like him to talk on something of specific interest to them, just let us at the center know or the doctor.

The Senior Citizens of Marion County meeting is Friday, Dec. 18, at Marion this month. Our business meeting is on Tuesday, Dec. 22. We will have brunch at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 24. It will be a breakfast casserole with a cinnamon roll cake or blueberry muffin this month.

Our cook, Sherri Wilson, is good to try to alternate the menu between each month.

Mark your calendar for a delicious soup supper at the senior center on Jan. 27. More details will follow.

For meal reservations or questions, call us at 983-2226 or come by 106 N. Walnut. We would love to hear from you.
